National Sanitation Day Observed at Wapuli

Under the distinguished leadership of Hon. George Bilimor Wumbei and led by Mr. Albert Anamoo Yembilla, District Coordinating Director, Staff of Saboba District Assembly, we joined the entire Wapuli and Saboba communities to observe this month’s National Sanitation Day. Credit to the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit for the coordination as the event was simultaneously observed.

The Hon. Presiding Member Emmanuel Beninbe Mando and Hon. Assembly Members were fantastic on this occasion.

National Sanitation Day (NSD) was first launched in 2014 by President John Dramani Mahama as part of efforts to improve public health and sanitation across the country. The initiative encourages community participation in cleaning public spaces, desilting drains, and maintaining a clean environment. It aims to foster a culture of environmental responsibility among citizens and local authorities.

In September 2025, the government reintroduced National Sanitation Day under the “Clean Up Ghana Agenda.” This relaunch emphasizes the importance of sanitation as a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs). The initiative aims to restore discipline in public spaces and enhance citizen participation in maintaining cleanliness.
