Farmers’ Day honors the contributions of farmers and fishers to the nation’s development, food security, and economic growth. It acknowledges the essential role that agriculture plays in sustaining the country and highlights the hard work of those in the agricultural sector based on this, this yearโs Farmersโ Day was held in Kinabulk in the Kpalba Electoral Area of Saboba District.
The event saw farmers from all over the district converging at Kinabulk to celebrate their day.
Paying tributes to the districtsโ farmers for supporting the economy and being the backbone of the district, Hon. George Bilimor Wumbei saluted them for their immerse contributions. In his address at Kinabulk on the theme: โFeed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Futureโ Hon. George announced governmentโs intention to set up a Farm Mechanization Centre in Garimata to support farmers in their activities. He said Saboba is among the five (5) districts in the Northern Region to benefit from this flagship program under the Feed Ghana initiative. He also mentioned that 613 farmer groups have been profiled to benefit from the Feed Ghana initiative from 2026 farming season.
This year, sixteen (16) Farmer Award category was established they include the following; Best Primary School in Agriculture, Best Junior High School in Agriculture, Best Senior High School in Agriculture, District Best FBO, District Best Youth Farmer, District Best Differently Abled Farmer, District Best Woman Farmer, District Best Agro processor, District Best Vegetable Farmer, District Best Crop Farmer, District Best Livestock Farmer, District Best Fisher, District Best Agric. Extension Agent, Overall Best Farmer (2nd Runner), Overall Best Farmer (1st Runner), Overall Best Farmer.
Bidaman Gnakoyar from Najakpel was adjudged the Overall Best Farmer for Saboba. He went home with a Lifan tricycle and agro inputs.
