The Ghana Productive Safety Net Project (GPSNP) is a $60 million IPF operation that builds on the Ghana Social Opportunities Project (GSOP). It is currently under implementation by the Government.
The objective of the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project (GPSNP) is to improve the livelihoods of the poor and vulnerable households in Ghana by increasing their consumption and reducing their vulnerability to shocks.
The project aims to achieve this by providing cash transfers and public works programs to the poor and vulnerable households in Ghana.
GPSNP has five activities/components which are Production Inclusion, Labor-Intensive Public Works, Livelihood Employment Against Poverty, Social Protection System Strengthening and Ghana National Household Registry.
The Productive Inclusion component of the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project is one of the five activities/components under GPSNP. It consists of two sub-components. Complementary Livelihood and Asset Support Scheme (CLASS), implemented in 42 districts in the 5 regions of Northern Ghana, increases access to income-generating activities for extremely poor households.
CLASS activities include training on life skills and microenterprise1
Complementary Livelihood and Asset Support Scheme (CLASS) is a sub-component of the Productive Inclusion component of the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project. CLASS activities include training on life skills and microenterprise.
Beneficiaries of the Productive Inclusion (PI) project are selected from LEAP households and also through a community-based selection (CBT) process.
The beneficiaries of the Productive Inclusion Component identify and select their preferred income generating activities among a number of listed activities made available to them by the project zonal office and a district CLASS implementation team informed by a feasibility study of available and viable activities within the district.
Beneficiaries of the Productive Inclusion component are trained on life skills, entrepreneurship, and related income generating activities they have chosen by the District CLASS implementation team. The income generating activities may include rice, groundnut, and dawadawa processing; soap making; vegetable production; Guinea fowl rearing; piggery; smock wearing; watermelon production; and bee keeping.
Cost components of selected income generating activities including raw materials, production and processing equipment and tools are costed and budgeted by the Zonal GPNSP office from which the Ezwich accounts of beneficiaries are credited with funds needed to procure them from project identified vendors and at an arranged mini market for beneficiaries to pay and take delivery of their wares.
