Refresher Training For Child Protection Committees In Saboba District

Child Protection Committees are integral in safeguarding the wellbeing of children at the community level. As part of ongoing development efforts, the Saboba District facilitated a refresher training program for the CPCs to enhance their capacity in handling child-related issues.

The main objectives of the refresher training was to:

– Update CPC members on the latest child protection policies and legal frameworks.

– Strengthen the skills required for early detection, reporting, and management of child abuse cases.

– Foster collaboration between CPCs and other stakeholders for improved child protection services.

A total of 150 participants from 15 communities within the Saboba District attended the training. Each community’s CPC was represented by 10 members who play various roles in child protection efforts. Communities selected included; Unido, Kpegu, Nasom, Dicheeni, Nalogni, Toma, Karkpeni, Hill top, Kimuatiek, N-nalog, Nakpando, Sagbe, Wayul, Chagbani, and Yachil,

The outputs of the training was centred on the following;

Legal Framework: Members were updated on the legal framework concerning child protection and their roles and responsibilities within it. 

Reporting Mechanisms: Training on effective reporting mechanisms for child abuse and exploitation cases was provided. 

Community Engagement: Emphasis was placed on the importance of community engagement in addressing child protection issues at the grassroots level.

Classroom sessions: The committee members participated in classroom sessions where they were provided with updated information on child rights, child protection laws, and policies. They also engaged in discussions and case studies to enhance their understanding of child protection issues.

Role-plays and simulations: The participants were involved in role-plays and simulations to practice their decision-making and problem-solving skills in child protection scenarios. This allowed them to apply the knowledge gained in real-life situations.
